We’ve been excited about 3D printers for months – we can’t wait until we finally get to own one. So you can imagine how excited we were to hear about a local startup (based in Portishead, near Bristol) who are building desktop 3D printers for everyone…

Who are they?

Developing top quality, technical products is nothing new to CEL who have been successfully building and manufacturing power tools for years.

Like us, the guys at CEL were super excited about 3D printing and set out to create something amazing.

They noticed that, although plenty of companies were working on 3D printers, no one was focusing on the everyday consumer. CEL decided to build a reliable, technically advanced 3D printer that could be used by anyone, and sold at a price that consumers could actually afford.

For the past 18 months, CEL have been developing the Robox, a beautiful, easy to use 3D printer which they aim to sell for less than £1,000.

From idea to market

After 18 months of development, the CEL team were ready to start drumming up interest. They wanted to get people excited about the product and test their assumption that there was actually a market for a cost effective, easy to use desktop 3D printer.

CEL asked us to develop a low cost website that would help them find out more about their market through testing their assumptions, building a community and capturing email addresses from interested people.

Once they found their audience, they were ready to get Robox out into the market…

Show me the money

CEL are currently in the midst of a super successful Kickstarter campaign to help them turn their prototype into a reality.

With 4 days left on the campaign, Robox have already well exceeded their £100,000 target. But you haven’t missed out, yet. A pledge of £700 will get you a pre-order for a limited edition Robox and a pledge of £5,000 will get you tickets and accommodation to the launch in Las Vegas as well as a personalised Robox. The campaign ends on December 20th 2013 so if you want to help, you’d better get a move on!

Get over to Kickstarter to show your support for Robox or sign up for the newsletter on their website.
