The days of boring dates are numbered, thanks to the latest addition to our portfolio of startups, Bristol-based Datemakers.

DJ lessons, axe throwing and street art lessons are just some of the date experiences that founders Joe Murley and Matt Wilson hunt for to offer on their online booking platform.

Inspired by the uninspiring date options on offer, recent graduates Joe and Matt decided it was time to do something about it.

They explained: “We saw a problem with the dating industry. Matchmaking sites are just focused on making introductions, and once you’ve matched, you are then left on your own to plan your dates.

“Then, when you’re in an established relationship, it can be hard to find new things to do together to keep your relationship fresh.

“So we set up Datemakers, to give people unlimited date ideas and experiences so that they’d never have to worry about organising their dates again.”

Growing the platform

When we first started working with Datemakers our mission was to overhaul their website, improve the user experience, smooth out the design and allow the team to add the functionality of gift vouchers and discount codes for increased sales.

Matt added: “It’s so crucial when you’re trying to grow your business, not knowing where to start, to have people like Simpleweb – so it has been amazing.

“The feeling of having a team around you that really know what they’re doing has been great. I’ve had fun and learnt a lot in the process too.”

It’s still early days for Datemakers, but Matt and Joe have some clever tricks up their sleeves for future growth so stay tuned on the blog for more updates in the coming months.
