This summer, we teamed up with Opposable Games to add value to an experimental augmented reality game for McDonalds. Our role was to look at how games and media can be re-used in a holistic digital strategy that encompassed social, CRM, mobile, games, offers, avatars, etc.

Award winning games development team, Opposable Games are recognised as experts in virtual and augmented reality gaming, and we’ve been big fans for a while. When Opposable Co-Founder, Ben Trewhella (who recently received two awards at the Bristol and Bath based SPARKies earlier this year) approached us to collaborate, we leapt at the chance.

In literally a few days the Opposable Games team knocked up an AR based pirate ship prototype for playing on the food trays in McDonalds. A lovely idea. While the creative team were in full flow, it was our job to look at how we could create an ecosystem based around “mobile”. We refocused this onto the user; the persona….

A persona travels with the user from app to app, service to service, restaurant to restaurant… With all interactions reported back to the “brain”, or activity stream server. Every verb and noun dutifully recorded (think Facebook’s “likes”, but more verbs) to allow more personalisation for the user, automated actions (e.g. achievements), and greater understanding for the client.

You can download the presentation and take a look for yourself. It’s super high level so don’t expect any secrets in there. 😉

We’re no stranger to collaborations. We’ve worked with agencies like Transform, Home and Karian and Box to develop top notch products for national and global companies alike. While we love working with startups, teaming up with other creatives to deliver products that will be used by millions of people feels pretty great. Teaming up with another small, local company that shares our ethos always makes us smile.

It’s been great working with Ben and the Opposable team. Those guys really are pros when it comes to gaming. With their expertise and our experience of delivering successful strategies, we’re feeling pretty proud of the outcome.
