London-based startup Social Belly, a social marketplace connecting diners with dinner party hosts, was updated last week with a sleek new interface that allows users to create or book dinner parties in and around London.

The idea behind the platform is simple: to connect foodies who want to host dinner parties with people looking for unique dining experiences.

While it’s certainly a foodie app, there is a clear emphasis on socialising.

It’s about allowing Londoners to build meaningful social relationships through creating a marketplace for like minded people like you and me to attend and host dinner parties” says founder Dimple Lalwani. “Social Belly is about stories and relationships… We want to create stories that are worth remembering and worth telling, stories that become part of your own identity.”

The new site was part of the prize Social Belly received for winning the #GetStarted2014 startup competition last year. Alongside development from Simpleweb, Social Belly received a marketing plan from Onboardly and a place on the Rackspace Startup Programme. The prize was just the boost Dimple needed to leave her job and focus on Social Belly full time…

“My decision to quit my full time job and work on Social Belly full time has been the best decision I’ve made so far.” says Dimple “being able to spend the entire day doing what you love is probably one of the best feelings one can have.”

Social Belly is currently only available to host and book dinner parties in and around London and there’s no plans to move into other cities just yet…

“We will only be focusing on London, we want to be everywhere in this city and be the ‘to-do’ thing that everyone is tweeting and talking about” says Dimple. “With the new website that we’ve launched this week we want to meet all of our users, including all hosts and guests. We want to know what they do, don’t do and want to do but can’t do. We want to know what sort of dinner parties they want to go to and be able to tell our hosts to cater for these.”

If you’re a foodie and keen to meet likeminded people in London, we recommend heading over to SocialBelly.com now to see what’s on offer.
