Last week three of the Simpleweb team headed to Taunton for the South West edition of the FSB Small Business Awards. Having been selected as a finalist for the Employer of the Year award, we were excited to be in the company of some amazing small businesses and startups from the region and even more excited when we heard our name read out as the winners.

The Skills Hub who were co-sponsors of the award, along with the EU Skills Fund, said in a tweet: “We’re proud to sponsor an award that recognises investment in staff, which is at the heart of what we do.”

Check out this sound bite from our CEO Mikey after receiving the award:

Here at Studio One we’re proud to have won based on our commitment to encouraging our team continually learn and progress through projects like Playground and our personal development funds. But it’s more than that, we love to see the merit and uniqueness in each and every individual on our team and that we have built a culture that prioritises openness and curiosity as well as ambition and innovation. The free home cooked lunches from Georgie every day don’t hurt either. 😉

Amongst the winners in other categories was a youth project that brings together teenagers with music and hip hop and a social enterprise that’s reintroduced healthy school meals to thousands of primary school children across Dorset. There were also some exciting digital solutions, particularly one company that was addressing the growing problem of poor mental health by providing an exciting new platform to the NHS that matches patients to the right therapist.

We’d like to thank FSB for recognising us with this award in the South West. We’re looking forward seeing all the winners again at the national finals in London this May where we have the chance to be crowned overall winner. Fingers crossed!
