We’re excited to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the Product Innovation category of the DoDifferent Awards for our work with food waste heroes OLIO.

We’re honoured to be listed as finalists among some of the biggest agencies in the country including SapientNitro, DigitasLBi, Elvis, JWT and Kitcatt Nohr.

When the OLIO team first approached us in April 2015, they had identified that the average household spends about £700 a year on food that goes to waste, meanwhile over 1m Britons need to use a Foodbank. OLIO wanted a hyper-local mobile platform to connect
those with surplus food, with neighbours nearby who would want it.

We developed the first few versions of the OLIO app and acted as OLIO’s Chief Technology Officer and full technical department, enabling OLIO to grow and scale without having to build out their own team.

When they were ready, we helped OLIO to hire their first developers – scouring CVs and interviewing all candidates. New developers worked out of our office initially for a smooth and efficient handover.

Since we first met OLIO founders Tessa and Saasha, they have raised money from a number of prolific investors and VC firms, most recently closing a $2.2m round from Accel, Quadia, Mustard Seed Quentin Griffiths of ASOS, Achica and FarmDrop, and Wayne Churchill of MDNX and Easynet. They now have 9 full time staff and are spreading the word about food waste all over the world.

The DoDifferent Awards ceremony is on March 2nd. We’ll keep you posted here and on Twitter @Simpleweb.
