Just three months ago, mobile-ordering startup Ordoo – one of our earliest investees – joined transport franchise GoAhead’s Billion Journey Project – a prestigious scale-up accelerator that provides crucial links to 350+ transport industry professionals.

For Ordoo, taking part was a great opportunity to further develop the business and make new contacts. However, a successful pitch at the end of the accelerator to 350+ industry professionals meant they also scored an exciting new contract with GoAhead to develop a proof-of-concept at bustling Brighton train station.

Ordoo founder Tom (pictured right) tells us: “The GoAhead accelerator has opened up loads of doors for Ordoo within the rail industry. We’re proud to have participated in the accelerator and bring Ordoo to time-poor passengers.”

Off the rails

FTSE 250 listed Go-Ahead, which manages 259 train and bus stations across the country, set up the accelerator to boost some of the UK’s most innovative startups and scale-ups whose technology could be used to improve services across the transport sector.

Along with Ordoo, our friends at Dovu were also offered a contract to develop their blockchain based rewards system that allows passengers to redeem tokens earned by using public transport services.

David Brown, Go-Ahead Group Chief Executive says: “With our passengers taking over one billion journeys a year, it is important that we are always looking at how we can better meet and exceed their changing needs. The quality of the businesses we have worked with through the Billion Journey Project has been was extremely high, and I hope it is a great indication of where the future of the transport industry is headed.”

For Ordoo this is an incredibly exiting time. If their proof of concept works for Brighton we could soon all be forgetting the coffee queues on our morning commutes, instead opting to use the Ordoo app to order and pay before arrival at train or bus stations across the country – saving time and energy for better things (sudoku anyone?).
