We’ve recently teamed up with Nurph, a Twitter chat platform looking to transform the way we communicate around topics on the internet.

Nurph was founded by Neil Cauldwell after he graduated from University back in 2006. Neil had become fascinated by the way websites like Facebook and Twitter were starting to connect people around the world and as soon as he graduated, he began work on his own social venture.

Originally named ‘Nurphy’, Nurph was (and still is) a platform for helping people communicate around specific topics. After taking some Angel investment 3 years in, Neil soon began to pivot once he discovered the world of Twitter chats.

A Twitter chat is where a group of people hold a conversation around a hashtag. Take #startrekhour for example, where Trekkies from around the world gather once a week to chat on Twitter. Or perhaps you’ve seen ‘#asksoandso’ hashtags, where celebrities publicly answer questions that users have posted to the hashtag.

Neil realised that Twitter chats were underserved and decided to gear Nurph more towards the people who were already using Twitter chats.

In 2013 the #litchat group adopted the platform and Neil continued to work on Nurph to make sure it served the #litchat community. Since then, more and more chats have adopted Nurph and with a couple more Angel investors on board, Neil and the Nurph team are ready to take Nurph to the next level… with video chat.

We’ll be working with Nurph over the coming weeks to help them integrate group video chat, and video chat archiving, into their platform using a WebRTC video streaming service supplied by TokBox.

“Video is a core part of the upcoming “Next-Generation Nurph”, alongside audio and text” says Nurph founder, Neil Cauldwell. “Next-Generation Nurph will create a brand new group chat experience for Twitter Users. The Nurphers are very excited about the new video-based features. It’s the Twitter chat experience we’ve been working towards for years.”

We’ll keep you up to date here but if Nurph sounds interesting to you, head on over to their website and sign up now!
