2017 has been another incredible year for OLIO. Following a $2.2m funding round at the end of 2016, OLIO has this year reached a major milestone in reducing food waste to the equivalent of taking 1 million car miles off the road!

OLIO has had some amazing media coverage in this year, including a feature on the App Store’s new ‘Today’ section and global coverage of the story of one volunteer who used OLIO to feed herself on just £5 a week in London. In November, Forbes magazine named them 1 of 10 UK tech SMEs ‘set for the big time in 2018’.

OLIO founders Tessa Cook and Saasha Celestial-One were invited to join the Mayor of London’s international business programme which took them to Silicon Valley with 14 other female founded high growth tech startups. They were finalists of the Chivas Venture competition, winning $13,700 and they won a scholarship to attend SoCap, the largest conference for impact startups, in San Francisco.

Next year, OLIO are planning to build on the core team of 9 that have seen them through the past two years (plus their 15,000 volunteers helping spread the word worldwide), hiring people with a focus on product, marketing and community. They’ll be continuing to partner with as many volunteers and companies as possible to make food waste a thing of the past.

OLIO are closing out the year with 340,000 signed up users (the exact amount they forecast at the end of last year!) and we don’t doubt they’ll be doing amazing things in 2018 too. Way to go OLIO 🙂
