Food waste fighting pioneers OLIO have just closed their seed round of funding with a top-tier global, private investor. Way to go, team OLIO!

OLIO, who are part of Simpleweb’s small but mighty investment portfolio, launched back in July and is showing some serious traction with over 9,000 app downloads in a little over three months. During the short time since they launched, OLIO has trended at number 1 in the UK App Store and been chosen as Tech City News’ ‘download of the week’.

The investment will allow OLIO to build up a team; they’re currently on the lookout for two mobile developers, a digital marketeer and an on-the-ground network team to continue spreading the word through North London. The team have their sights set on a London-wide launch in March 2016 before beginning their expansion throughout the UK. We can’t wait to get OLIOing here in Bristol!

Over the coming months we’ll be working closely with OLIO adding in customised notifications, social features, profiles and payments.

“OLIO is a grass-roots movement that is gathering momentum, street by street, community by community” said Tessa Cook, Co-Founder of OLIO.

“The scandal of food waste now faces a simple solution – an app connecting people and businesses to share their edible surplus food.

“We’re thrilled to have a backer who shares our belief in the mission.”

We’ll keep you up to date with the latest OLIO news here but do head over to olioex.com and join the food sharing revolution now!
