Some TechCrunch love for ContactZilla

We are all very excited to have been featured on TechCrunch Europe today for our ContactZilla product. It’s a great intro write up from Steve O’Hear that’s already brought us a lot of traffic. What a great way to kick off the New Year for ContactZilla! We love tech at Simpleweb, but it’s no match for seeing a stream of tweets talking about all the hard work we’ve been putting in.

In true Beta stlye, we’ve suffered a few performance issues from the influx of the traffic, apologies to anyone trying to review the product that is experiencing difficulty, please stick with us, we do have plenty of server capacity but we need to dedicate more of it to ContactZilla once things have quietened down a bit.

Please do ask us any questions you have about the product, ideas, suggestions, concerns. We’ve got lots of cool stuff planned for 2011 and we have an awesome team behind the product so we’re really keen to deliver the features and functionality that you all want from such a product.

ContactZilla Client Interview

We recently launched ContactZilla, an easy to use Contact Management system, and we thought it was time to get some feedback. The good, the bad and the ugly, we wanted it all!  And who better to help us on our journey for continuous improvement than Nigel Legg, social media and social CRM consultant.

“It does not have a traditional CRM system look and feel (white screen, grey boxes, spreadsheets of history). It’s very clean, clear, simple, easy to use, easy to find your way around the screen.”

“I mean what I say on my website, I really think it is the best product around of its kind.”

Contact Manager survey – the results so far

We are currently conducting a survey about contact managers and wanted to give you a quick update. Those surveyed are asked about the size and nature of their business, what contact manager they use and how they would rate it, and what they would like improved.

The Results so far

We have had an excellent response so far from varied businesses. Businesses with 1-5 employees currently represent 30% of our respondents with another 30% from businesses with 100+ employees. Our current statistics show that:

  • 9% rated their contact manager as 5/5
  • 29% 4/5
  • 28% 3/5
  • 20% 2/5
  • 14% 1/5

62% of people currently surveyed have therefore rated their contact manager as average or below average.

The most popular contact manager currently used by 32% of respondents is Outlook. Second is Google apps with 9%.

What would people change?

When asked what people would like their current system to do that it does not already, the top 5 results so far are as follows:

  • “Mobile” compatibility. Synchronize with mobile, auto update through mobile.
  • Integrated with Social media (namely LinkedIn)
  • Automatically synchronize with email
  • Quick and Easy to use
  • Easy to search functionality

Some interesting specific requests are:

  • To be able to search with either first name or surname and even if mis-spelt find results
  • Check for duplicates
  • Make suggestions of people to add in to emails based on previous emails (tagging).

The brand journey of our new product

We’re getting ready to launch a new product; very exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. We’ve been working really hard on getting everything in order technically and visually. The branding process has been interesting for sure and we’re very happy with the outcome so far.

We want to go for something fun and memorable, with a Studio Ghibli feel. Serene colouring and simple outlines. We’re happy so far.

Below you can see the process that we’ve gone through to get to the final ContactZilla character… A lot of fun has been had, with more to come.
