Deki is a brilliant Bristol-based charity that helps regular people like you and me to help fund entrepreneurs in developing countries.
Deki allows donors to offer loans, where 100% of the money loaned goes directly to an entrepreneur in need. The donor receives their money back within 12 months and they can either withdraw their money, or re-lend it to another entrepreneur.

Deki was founded in 2008 by Vashti Seth. Vashti’s father had sponsored a Tibetan refugee called Deki Dolkha so that she could go to school, but once Deki’s education came to an end, a lack of opportunities forced her back to her estranged family in rural Tibet where she had little chance to put her education to use. Following her father’s sudden death in 2005, Vashti visited Deki in India and was inspired to find a way that she could help people in developing countries work their way out of poverty.

With a modest inheritance of just £2,000, Vashti set up Deki which has so far helped over 13,000 entrepreneurs across six developing countries, and shows no sign of slowing down soon.

Simpleweb has supported Deki with their technology for the last four years, mainly developing and supporting their back-end loans application, and ensuring consistency with their front end website. Simpleweb Co-Founder and Managing Director, Mark Panay, sits on Deki’s board of Trustees and regularly offers advice and technical support.

“The Simpleweb team have been instrumental in helping us develop both our front end website and the application” said Vashti. “As a result we are now much more efficient and better able to change more lives in Africa – thank you Simpleweb.”

Deki is a fantastic charity and we couldn’t be happier to be supporting them. If you want to support an entrepreneur, head on over to deki.org.uk to make your first loan.
